Crafting a Sustainable Skincare Routine

Creating a skincare regimen, especially one that is sustainable and organic, can be tricky ... that’s why we’re here to help! At FD Market, we carry three eco-friendly, cruelty-free skincare lines whose companies are committed to helping people and the planet, just like us!

One of these lines is from UpCircle, a sustainable beauty company founded by brother and sister, Will and Anna. Their mission is to make upcycled products from ingredients that would otherwise be disposed of, like coffee grounds, residual chai spices, and more.

We also carry 100% certified vegan face bars from HiBAR. HiBAR is committed to creating highly-concentrated products that you, the customer, will get your money’s worth in using and to removing unnecessary waste through the use of paper packaging and vegetable-based ink.

Last but not least, you’ll find a variety of face and body soaps from Butter + Lye in stock at FD Market. Founder Monique Garraud Kofsky used her scientific background as a biochemist to develop a soap that is not only high quality, but free of harsh chemicals and fragrances, and to develop a business that prides itself on its sustainable practices.

Before we dive in, it’s important to remember that everyone’s skin is different, and you should always listen to its needs. We’re just here to give you the information, so that you can make a more informed decision. So, feel free to adapt this routine to make sure your skin is its healthiest and happiest.

Now, what products should you stop into FD Market to grab and incorporate into your daily skincare regimen?

Step One: An Oil-Based Cleansing Balm

Cleansing balms use oils and emollients to draw out makeup, SPF, and any oil-based impurities that may be in the skin. For oily skin types, it may sound counterintuitive to use an oil cleanser. However, “like attracts like”, so the oil from the cleanser will attract and draw out the oil from deep within your pores. Cleansing balms also work well for dry skin types because they have such hydrating properties, and for combination skin for both of the aforementioned reasons!

We recommend that you start your routine by cleansing your face with UpCircle’s cleansing face balm with oat oil + vitamin E. This balm’s soothing oat oil and antioxidant-rich apricot powder will remove makeup and draw out any impurities deep in the skin to leave you with a soft and healthy-looking complexion.

For best use, before bedtime work a small amount of the cleansing face balm into your skin. Then, remove it with a warm, damp cloth. It feels like a mini spa experience every time!

Step Two: A Water-Based Cleanser

Water-based cleansers aid in removing any water-soluble dirt, oil, and sebum that may still remain in the pores after using an oil-based cleanser. It is important to note that water-based cleansers may be better suited for oily or acne-prone skin, as there is potential for them to strip the skin of natural oils that create a healthy skin barrier otherwise. So, while double cleansing with oil-based and water-based cleansers may be beneficial for oily and even combination skin types, you may just want to skip to step three if you find yourself with naturally dryer skin.

We suggest incorporating a face and body soap bar from Butter + Lye for this step. We carry a variety of their organic bars for all skin types. You can find more details about each type at the links here: Oil Reducing Charcoal, Moisturizing Rosehip, Anti-Aging Sage, Exfoliating Pink Clay, and Healing Turmeric

To use, thoroughly dampen your skin. Create a light lather by gently rubbing the bar directly on the skin, or by rubbing the bar between your hands and applying the lather to the skin on your face and neck. Then, rinse.

Step Three: A Moisturizer

A good moisturizer is an essential part of any skincare regimen. Moisturizers are beneficial for all skin types, and they act by repairing the skin barrier and preserving the integrity and appearance of the skin.

After cleansing, we suggest moisturizing with UpCircle’s face moisturizer with vitamin E + aloe vera. This soothing, hydrating face cream will nourish and brighten the skin.

Gently massage a dab of this product into the skin on your face and neck. A little goes a long way!

Step Four: A Serum

Many people assume that a serum offers the same benefits as a moisturizer. While it is hydrating and soothing in the same way, it absorbs much faster and naturally boosts collagen production, which will keep your complexion looking firm and plump.

Finish your daily routine off by treating your skin with UpCircle’s organic facial serum with coffee + rosehip oil. Coffee oil will help fade dark spots and scars, while rosehip oil soothes and nourishes your skin.

Just apply a few drops of the serum onto your fingerprints and gently massage it into the skin on your face and neck.

And you’re all set!

To enhance your skincare routine, we suggest that you treat your skin with HiBAR’s “renew”, solid face wash twice a week. The world’s first amino acid face wash bar has a gentle, exfoliating formula that will brighten and revitalize your skin.

The amino acids in HiBAR’s face wash are crucial for maintaining healthy skin. Through producing proteins like keratin and collagen, amino acids ensure that your complexion stays healthy and vibrant. Further, water-soluble amino acids aid in retaining water at the skin barrier, which maintains proper hydration.

Be kind to your skin and the earth with this routine. If you (and your skin) love your new regimen as much as we do, make sure to share it with the FD team on socials!
