Eco-Friendly Swaps for a Mindful Fall - A Guide to a Sustainable Season
The seasons are shifting and I am eager for cooler weather and cozier days. Here are a few of my favorite tips for a sustainable cozy season.
Eat seasonally
I really love leaning into the shift of seasons and eating sustainably by prioritizing in-season local foods. Fall is actually my favorite season to stroll my local farmers market, and some of my favorite fall staples are apples, beets, brussel sprouts, and squashes + pumpkins!
I also try to embrace sustainability by composting or repurposing my food scraps while I’m in the kitchen. Since we’re officially heading into soup season, I have been stockpiling onion, garlic, and other veggie scraps in my freezer to turn into veggie broth!
Try to support local farmers for these foods for the most sustainable and nutrient-rich option!
For extra fall fun, find local orchards and patches that allow pick-your-own!
Seasonal wardrobe
Here in PA it’s necessary to shift your wardrobe with the seasons. While I try to re-wear as many pieces through the years as possible, I needed a few new staples this season. I always try to source things second hand if possible, and I was so excited to score a few really nice sweaters on Poshmark for this fall!
Challenge: if you’re dressing up for Halloween this year, see if you can thrift your costume as well!
Travel Mindfully
After such a hot summer, it is so nice to dream of being outside without sweating the *entire* time. Fall is the perfect time of year to ditch your car and walk or bike to your destination instead of driving.
Decorating with Nature
I love the coziness of fall, but don’t want to feed into the consumerism of the season. I love decorating with natural elements like pinecones + branches i can find on a walk through my neighborhood, and dried oranges. I invest in one or two high quality seasonal candles and always keep some beeswax tapers on hand for allll the cozy vibes.
You can fully enjoy the sweetness of this new season without overconsuming. Comment your favorite sustainable fall tips and tag us on Instagram if you try any of these mindful ideas. Oh, and don’t forget to bring your reusable cup for your pumpkin spice latte!
